To start: As a general rule, don't believe what you hear. TV and radio advertising sells us on the fact that wireless internet can be accessed like magic via our cellular phones. Fact ---> Yes, well maybe, the truth is that the data volume available is limited and cellular will not be a viable, reliable source of high content, low cost data (i.e. full photo/image web pages) for a long time, if ever at all. So how do we solve this. Further more, and not pay to much. Answer ---> We share the cost. The average individual or business can create a wireless network to share for less than $700. It may seem like expensive, although when you start to factor in the cost to buy (Ethernet wire, adapters, hubs, connectors) wow, why would anyone ever wire a house or business for a network anymore. The cost to go wireless is really only about 20% more than hard wiring. Remember, you gain the flexibility to move furniture, people and equipment later as you want, without the hassle of re-wiring. Hmmmmm. Now for the good part ---> Shared IP address and DHCP In a small wireless network environment, the hub or access point uses a random, managed process to share it's IP address with all the wireless devices within 100 to 250 ft. It also bridges (connects) those devices through to the internet using one path. In this way, a business can provide customers with access to the internet using only one login. This can be a great marketing feature, as well as a cheap way to advertise to clients in the immediate area. Even show specials that are local only in the store. Hmmmmm. How many people can share this one line. ---> 10, 256 or even 1024 at once. The most reasonably priced wireless access points go for between $300 and $400 dollars. They handle around 10 users at one time. Great for small areas like coffee shops, homes, small business offices even just for video gaming with friends. The next price range access points handle more clients and as expected cost a bit more. Next comes, indoor and outdoor models that handle up to 1000 users at one time. It really starts to depend on what your wireless needs are. How does FreeAirNet fit in the picture? FreeAirNet has a two fold function. First: Provide a common place to organize the FREE wireless efforts. That is why we provided the search database on our main page. This allows people a means of finding free internet access. thus the name "FREEAIR". It is our vision that we as consumers should expect this type of service to be routine in the future. We should have access to the internet at grocery stores, restaurants and just about any place we travel. Second: We want to setup a service that is skilled in helping individuals and businesses install/setup and maintain wireless networks of their own. With this in mind, we have made arrangements with many of the manufactures of wireless components to carry their products. Thus giving each of you the opportunity to expand the real FREEAIRNET to your friends and customers.
